Britian is irrelevant to the 21st century. It’s sad, but true. I hope they have a lovely visit, but Britian has nothing to offer the US but nostalgic pomp and circumstance which most people will confuse with Bridgerton.
You are sending the King to the White House of a President who is not sane. A President who is threatening genocide and/or nuclear annihilation tonight. Or maybe tomorrow night. Or maybe he'll invade Cuba instead. Or both. A President whom Dr. John Gartner, to name one, claims is a malignant narcissist with frontotemporal dementia, who likely has become addicted to war and uses it to self-medicate, and who is visibly deteriorating week by week. While a sycophantic and complicit Cabinet refuses to exercise the 25th Amendment. Just so we're clear. To talk about the 250th Anniversary to a Congress that might or might not be in session, depending on the mood of the Speaker of the House, and to be above politics. OK. Good luck with that.
Do you see why following the royals has become my favorite form of escapism?

Oh, pish.
Because trying to appease a barbaric regime that has murdered many tens of thousands of its own people, rapes its young women because they do not wear burkas properly, pursues its escapees into other countries, and has exported and funded terrorism and murdered American citizens and soldiers (not to mention Jews, but one assumes that few people care about them) for 47 years is sane.
Because encouraging millions of military-aged Muslims and other men to cross borders illegally and unvetted is sane.
And pumping children full of chemicals and hormones and then lopping off their healthy body parts is sane.
And allowing dysfunctional and diseased people to live on sidewalks and then excuse them when they assault and kill passers-by is sane.
And turning aside when academic types teach young people that the United States is a satanic institution which is, yeah, why so many millions continue to immigrate here (legally), is sane. Death to America! Death to Israel! And let's vandalize everything in sight!
Trump is imperfect, I didn't vote for him, but his actions meet with my approval.
Sorry, I didn’t mean to derail the conversation. I was commenting on the wisdom of sending King Charles to the United States just now, and didn’t intend to release the Kraken.
This is such a thoughtful and insightful piece—you have really captured the complexity of the moment with clarity and balance. I especially appreciate how you highlight the quiet power of presence and restraint. A compelling read from start to finish. As an eternal optimist I am always hopeful that King Charles will come through with the grace and dignity he has always shown in challenging situations and I hope that President Trump’s adoration of the royal family will facilitate a successful visit.
Great article! King Charles is in effect, Britain's highest ranking diplomat. And he has redeemed that role quite well in some "sticky wicket" situations. That Trump will undoubted try to manipulate whatever the King says or does to the public, is beyond questioning, that is a leit-motif that Trump has used throughout his life. That Trump will publicly convey anything discussed with the King in accurate terms is exceedingly doubtful. The whole Iran war & tariff situation has been constantly presented by Trump to the public as Trump being the hero & saving America from countries that were supposed to be allies but are ripping America off, deserting America in its time of need -- is legendary but a lie. Experts indicate the King will walk a "delicate diplomatic tightrope," focusing on ceremonial duties & the 250th Anniversay of Independence to avoid being drawn into any controversy. He will address Congress & other public remarks to speak broadly about the "pressures of conflict" & the importance of the special relationship of the two countries. The King is skilled & the King has a "trump" going for him - that President Trump is & has been an admirer of the British Royal Family for a long time.

You made a statement to which I replied. Surely you meant what you said. So did I.
I used to vote for Democrats. Trump is Solomon in comparison.
Thank you for your reflective, substantive and elegant introduction.
Much appreciated!
It's not the lightest of dispatches, but it is the most important. Thank you.
He has nothing to offer, as an American I would rather he not. No slight on England, just 2 vastly different countries now.
He should not go.
